A catalyst for the co-creation of live performance, Submerged Paradise invited audiences to revel in a radiant dreamlike environment, in an unparalleled fusion of music, dance, and the enchanting play of light.

The piece was commissioned as part of POPFEST, by West Kowloon CDA, as part of a festival blending pop culture with artistic creativity from 1-3 November 2024.

Renowned Hong Kong choreographer Shing Mak and beatboxer DJ Heartgrey curated and hosted an event featuring a dizzying array of dance genres, including city pop, urban, jazz funk, hip hop, tap dance, Latin dance and contemporary ballet, alongside street dance battles. Resident dancers from the Hong Kong Dance Company performed contemporary Chinese dance, with different special guest artists joining each night. The artist line-up included STANLEY@ MIRROR, FATBOY@ERROR, LYMAN, KC & TSOUL, BEN CHIU, DJ HEARTGREY and more.

Audiences were able to wander freely among the strands of light and experience the immersive festival vibe. Admission to Submergence and the “Submerged Paradise” Dance Party was free.
